Being a Responsible Member
In the mind of the larger community, the general public image of fraternities and sororities are not distinguished as separate. This means that our actions (good and bad) directly affect the reputation of the fraternity and sorority community. What does this mean to you?
Through your chapter's conduct, you are communicating the image of your chapter and your Sorority to others. Each new member and initiate has a responsibility to promote a positive image in what you do each day, your leadership among the students and the way that you conduct yourself in public.
You are practicing public relations, which create the image of your chapter to potential new members, existing members, the fraternity and sorority community, other students, your campus and your community.
Public relations are:
- what you are
- how you act
- how others perceive you
- any situation, act or word that influences people
- a continuous process.
Public relations don't end after one event. Positive public relations, coupled with service and philanthropic activities, can do much to dispel the misconceptions and negative stereotypes sometimes associated with fraternities and sororities.
