The Ritual:
Foundation of our Sisterhood
What makes us sisters?
We see the value of Delta Zeta's founding principles and we believe in them.
We understand that the heritage of Delta Zeta is based on principles that are also embraced by many other people.
We want members to accept these principles as worthwhile values and try to incorporate them into everyday living.
The need to form close friendships with other college women who share similar values.
The desire to have a well-rounded collegiate experience that combines academic growth and social learning.
A lifetime association that will transcend age differences and geographic relationships.
Most importantly, we have shared the Ritual.
You have experienced the Pledging Service—just think of how many other women, just like you, have shared this ceremony since it was created over 100 years ago. Soon, you will experience the Initiation Service.
Since Delta Zeta embodies self-respect and dignity at all times, the chapter is prohibited from deviating from the Ritual in any way or from conducting any ceremony or engaging in any behavior that demeans the individual and undermines Delta Zeta's values, ideals and principles.
Once you are an initiated member, you will understand the symbolism and meaning behind the beauty of the Ritual. These secrets of the Sorority are a privilege only for initiated members?
Over 220,000 women have experienced the same ceremony, heard the same words, learned the same symbolism. To place them in one location would create a medium-sized city! This is the vast scope of our Sorority.
Your experience with the Ritual does not stop with your initiation. You will be among those to share it with the new initiates and alumnae of the future. It is during these ceremonies that the words will become more familiar and the meaning behind them even better understood.
Remember, the Ritual is the heart and soul of Delta Zeta. Its secrets will be placed in your hands for safekeeping. This responsibility is not to be taken lightly, for to discuss the Ritual with a non-member is to betray the trust placed in you by your sisters throughout the world.
