New Member Retreat

A retreat provides chapter members with an opportunity to interact, build strong relationships and plan for the future in an environment that is free of interruptions and the day-to-day pressures of being a college student.

How long does a retreat last?
A retreat can last for two hours, six hours, one day or an entire weekend. Some groups prefer several short (two - six hours) retreats a year while others prefer one or two weekend retreats per year. The length of time spent on retreat depends on the business to be completed and availability of space and money. Whatever the length of the retreat, it must have prior approval of the CCD.

Where do we hold a retreat?
In order for this to be a true retreat, it must be held away from the everyday environment. It is important for the retreat to be somewhere other than the Delta Zeta house. Some possible locations include state parks, church or school facilities, members' homes or homes of alumnae. Of course, the size of your group will dictate the best location.

Who goes on a retreat?
If the focus of the retreat is to build a stronger sisterhood, then the entire chapter membership would be expected to attend. On the other hand, if the retreat is planned as an officer training session, then only outgoing and incoming officers and chairmen would be expected to attend. No matter what the purpose is for the retreat, the CCD or an alumna, approved by the RCC, must always be present.

Why go on a retreat?
We're all familiar with the expression, "Stop the world, I want to get off." Going on retreat helps us to do just that for a limited amount of time. With no everyday interruptions, we can commune with each other and nature, returning home refreshed, energized and ready to begin anew.
